Foundation Football
First touch, first team, first love of the game.
Overview
What this stage is for
Foundation is where a Panorama player is made. Sessions are built around the ball, the game and the group: short activities, high repetition, plenty of touches and matches small enough that every child is involved in every phase. Winning is not ignored, but it is not the measure — the measure is whether children arrive early, leave reluctantly and return next week better than they left.
Feeds Youth Development. Players are moved on age and readiness, and Foundation coaches contribute the first entries in a player's permanent development record.
Development focus
What players work on
- Ball mastery and confident first touch under light pressure
- Running with the ball and one-versus-one courage
- Basic passing, receiving and scanning habits
- Positional awareness through rotation rather than fixed roles
- Enjoyment, belonging and consistent attendance
Coaching emphasis
How it is coached
- Small-sided games with frequent restarts
- Guided discovery over instruction from the touchline
- Every child rotates through every area of the pitch
- Praise for attempts, not just outcomes
