Panorama at 40: honouring the journey, building the future

The club was founded in 1986. Four decades on, the anniversary is being marked not with nostalgia alone but with the most significant institutional investment in the club's history.

Forty years is long enough for a football club to become part of the furniture of a suburb. Children who first played at Panorama in the late 1980s now bring their own children through the same gate on a Saturday morning. That continuity is the club's real asset, and it is worth saying plainly what produced it: volunteers who kept turning up, coaches who stayed for years rather than seasons, and families who treated the club as theirs.

The anniversary year is an opportunity to do two things at once. The first is to gather and preserve the club's history properly. Four decades of team photographs, prize-giving programmes, registration forms, fixture lists and newspaper clippings currently live in boxes, in cupboards, and on the phones of people who used to run things. Much of it has never been catalogued. Some of it is already lost.

The second is to build the institutional infrastructure a club of this age should have. Panorama has always been well run by the people doing the running; what it has not had is a system that outlives them. When a volunteer administrator steps back, the knowledge of who is registered, who has paid, which consent form was signed and which player was promoted has historically walked out with them.

Panorama ONE is the answer to that. It is a single platform holding people, participation, development and documents, with one permanent identity for every player from their first Foundation session to the day they return as an alumnus. It is being built through the anniversary year and into the seasons beyond it.

The forty-year celebration itself will be held at the club, and it is deliberately open — to current families, to former players, to the coaches and committee members who built the place, and to the community that has used these pitches for four decades. We would also like the archive back. If you have photographs, programmes, kit or records from any era of Panorama's history, the club wants to see them, scan them and give them a permanent home.

Forty years built the legacy. The work now is to make sure the next forty are properly recorded.

Review note: Anniversary derived from the confirmed 1986 founding year. No specific historical milestone is asserted as fact.
